University of Tasmania (UTAS) visits partner universities in China and SATCM, 2-5 June 2019

At the invitation of AEMG, a delegation under the leadership of Prof. Holger Meinke, Director, Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, University of Tasmania visited a number of Chinese partner universities.

Mrs. Jenny Wang, AEMGDirector General accompanied the UTAS delegation to Southwest University on 2nd and 3rd June where they were welcomed by Prof. Jinjun Wang, Vice President and key representatives from a range of Southwest University Schools.  In-depth discussions were held around areas and topics of common interest in scientific research. Detailed consultation took place regarding long-term sustainable cooperation, where a broad consensus was reached. Following the meetings, the delegation participated in student pre-departure activities and attended several relevant lectures.

On the 4th June the UTAS delegation, with Jenny, visited Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NUCM) where they were welcomed by Prof. Zhiguang Sun, Vice President and other key staff. Extensive productive discussion was held in relation to research projects around the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) resource centre. Ms. Jenny Wang said “ that the Centre provides an exciting opportunity for both partners and the expertise of NUCM will be valuable for future development of the Centre. We are hopeful that in the future our combined efforts may lead to the great success.”

The delegation then visited Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine and Medicine Garden of NUCM, allowing for a greater understanding of TCM philosophy, and a clearer picture of the significance of resource development research.

On the 5th June, Jenny accompanied the delegation to the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China (SATCM). They were welcomed by Ms. Xiaopin Wang, Director General and Mr. Haidong Zhu, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, and Mr. Sicheng Wang, Deputy Director General, Department of Science and Technology, along with other key staff. The three parties conducted extensive discussions and broad consensus was achieved. Following this meeting, the delegation toured the Tongrentang Natural Medicine Co., Ltd.

Along with consolidation of existing partnerships, practical cooperation in the areas of educational program and research cooperation were pushed to a new level.
