On the 21st and 22nd of October 2019, at the invitation of AEMG Group, a delegation of four experts from Swinburne University of Technology (SUT) visited Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW) and the Joint Research Centre in Advanced Manufacturing (JRCAM) in Weihai Lingang District. The group was led by Professor Lu Guoxing, the Director of JRCRM. Professor Peter Frappell, the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development of AEMG, accompanied the delegation throughout the visit. The purpose of this visit was to establish further research collaboration under the JRCAM and to execute the Double Hundred Foreign Experts Plan as granted to the JRCAM earlier this year.
On the morning of the 21st, the delegation came to SDUW School of Mechanical and Electrical and Information Engineering. Vice Dean of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Wang Li, met with the visitors and held talks. The three parties discussed management modes and a PhD Cultivating Scheme under the JRCAM. In future, the center will do its best to maintain and further develop the partnership and carry out higher-level cooperation and exchanges in more disciplines and fields.
In the afternoon, SUT and SDUW experts conducted a Joint Research Workshop where existing postgraduate students were invited to attend. Experts from both sides exchanged ideas and research topics in the hot areas of advanced manufacturing, and carried out in-depth discussion on relevant fields.
On October 22, accompanied by Vice Dean, Prof Wang Li, the delegation visited the JRCAM in Weihai Lingang District. Mr. Wang Pengyuan, deputy director of the Carbon Fiber Industrial Park in Weihai Lingang District, gave a detailed demonstration of the facilities and instruments of the industrial park and the Joint Research Centre. Mr.Yu Wenjiang, Secretary of the Party Working Committee and director of the Management Committee of Weihai Lingang District expressed appreciation to SDUW, SUT and AEMG for the contribution to the centre. Mr. Yu showed his appreciation for the contributions made by all parties in the advanced manufacturing center, and hopes that the joint center can further develop and contribute to the internationalization of the two universities, in-depth cooperation with enterprises and local talent cultivation.
This visit has achieved remarkable results and great significance. On this visit, the three parties held a series of detailed discussion and reached a number of consensuses. With the efforts from the three parties, we hope that in the future, the scale of the Joint Research Centre for Advanced Manufacturing will continue to grow, and the teachers and equipment will be improved soon – so as to cultivate a group of top talents in related fields as soon as possible, contribute high-level scientific research achievements, and become the leading scientific research centre in this field.
