On September 9, 2018, Southwest University held a Joint Opening Ceremony with Australian National University, the University of Western Australia, Deakin University and the University of Auckland for cohort 2018 joint education program freshmen and their parents. There were four parallel sessions according to different program majors and the meeting was conducted in warm and friendly atmosphere. Foreign guests who attended the meeting included Professor Paul Martin, Director of ANU Research School of Psychology, Professor John Dell, Dean of College of Computer & Information Science from UWA, Professor John Yearwood，Head of School of Information Technology from DU, and Professor Sebastian Link, Associate Dean (International), Faculty of Science from UOA. Professor ZENG Yan, Professor LIU Zuoxun, Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee of the College of Computer & Information Science, Southwest University, Professor XIAO Guoqiang, Dean of the College of Computer & Information Science, Professor CHEN Wu, Professor HAN Yi, Vice Deans of the college, Professor CHEN Hong, Dean of SWU Faculty of Psychology, Professor XU Zhan, Associate Dean of SWU Faculty of Psychology, and AEMG representatives, etc. attended the meeting.
In the first session, the meeting was held by Southwest University and Australian National University. Professor Paul Martin introduced its major advantage and research results. Meanwhile, he also answered questions put forward by parents and students to help them have a comprehensive understanding of ANU.
In the second session, the meeting was held by Southwest University and the University of Western Australia. Professor XIAO Guoqiang from Southwest University, made the speech and expressed his best wishes and views. Then, Professor John Dell, Executive Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences briefly introduced the history, study and life of the University of Western Australia. At last, Professor LIU Yinong, Associate Dean International, Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences communicated with students and their parents in a positive way and answered many questions in detail.
In the third session, the meeting was held by Southwest University and Deakin University. Professor John Yearwood introduced the world ranking and major strength of Deakin University in detail. Student representative studying abroad, introduced his experience of studying and living in Deakin University.
In the fourth session, the meeting was held by Southwest University and the University of Auckland. Professor Sebastian Link gave a detailed introduction to the joint program between the University of Auckland and Southwest University from many aspects as well as a brief introduction to the history and culture of New Zealand and the university.
Through the four meetings, the students have a general understanding of specific circumstance of Chinese and Australian universities. Meanwhile, they are full of confidence for their future.
